And to John for building a better rudder gust lock for Ruby and creating a new mirror mounting system for the tow plane that just might make it possible to see the wing runner.
Saturday kept us guessing but Sunday is looking unequivocally good… I think! So hopefully we’ll get lots of fun flying in. Planning to start around 11am.

It’s just not happening. No soaring Sunday!
The weather once again buoyed our hopes only to dash them… Hung around the airport all morning hoping to fly but finally decided at 11am that we might as well make lemonade from lemons and use the low clouds for practice IFR approaches since soaring wasn’t going to work out.
Looks like good weather again! A few regulars are unavailable this weekend but we should have enough to have some fun. Starting a bit later due to John having morning commitments, but shooting for 11:30 start time both days.

Soaring was a lot of fun this past Sunday. Just enough lift to make it challenging and interesting, plus some gusts and turbulence to challenge the newer pilots on the tow… and enough people hanging out at the glider port to have some ‘hangar flying’ in addition to the real stuff.
John claims to have set a new altitude record of 6500 feet, but those of us holding the old (tied) record aren’t sure whether to believe him since he has no proof!
Tom got to experience an unexpected ‘rope break’ (simulated), Russell had some fun with Ruby, and Kegan is progressing nicely toward having his private pilot certificate on his 16th birthday.
We also got the 1-26 annual inspection completed, which wasn’t as fun but was a good use of the time on Saturday that was too gusty to soar.
Student pilots – don’t forget to bring your logbooks and get your instructors to sign them before leaving!
Saturday winds have kicked up a bit beyond our comfort level and are 90 deg from the glider runway, so NO flying. Hoping for better on Sunday.
Looks like good weather again. We’re going to try to ask that those most interested in training arrive early (i.e. 11am) and those more interested in finding lift arrive a little later, like 1pm. Not sure how that will work and nothing firm, but worth a try!
